LIMPET - Meeting the demands of the health and Safety Executive
Special Features
|
Stops unauthorised tampering with boards as a scaffolding spanner is required to undo the fixing bolting- so eliminating one of the major causes of accidents in the construction industry.
Easily, quickly and safely installed. The Limpet is fixed in place by working from the boarded platform section using a scaffolding spanner, there is no need to reach or go below the platform. |
 |
One Limpet secures two boards simultaneously thereby halving the number of fittings required.
No tripping hazard as the unique limpet has a flat dome shape- unlike the commonly used half wrap clip which protrudes approx. 19 mm above the boards.
Minimal space between boards (12 mm approx.) Less gap than with half wrap clip fittings and in permanent gratings.
 |
No bolts protruding into lower platforms - preventing possible head injuries.
Ease of servicing and maintenance. The bolts are replaceable and the cup coated against corrosion protection, with an optional high specification (FeZn5/FeZn8) coatings to withstand extreme offshore conditions. |
The Limpet is extremely strong, lightweight, neat and easily handled and can be used for securing double toe boards.
Over the past few years, several attempts have been made to produce a fast and efficient method of securing down boards to prevent displacement from wind and unauthorised and unqualified movement from others.
| From a safety aspect, the consequences of board displacement on a scaffolding can be serious. If a board is blown off a scaffolding, there is a risk that site personnel or the general public could be injured or killed. There could be damage to the fabric of the building or to equipment. |
 |
In all, board displacement can be a costly affair to all concerned, be it an insurance claim or a claim between contractors, or loss of production on site, or more serious of human life.
There are various methods of fixing boards down boards, although most of them are adequate for the task whether holding one board or several, other safety factors can become highlighted because of the action of securing the boards.
 |
Common hazards are from tripping over protrusions such as rope and wire that can become stretched and the board has become loose, or by mechanical means where the fittings are of a thickness above the level of the board, of having to perform the fixing operation underneath the boards where tools could easily be dropped or cause a fall from leaning underneath to work. |
Where rope and wire is used, it is normally limited to one use and therefore produces a nuisance waste and also an ongoing consumable every time the boards are moved and
re-fixed.
Unlike any other board fastener, the "Limpet" can boast a number of features that make it unique. It is a quality made fitting designed to be efficient for its purpose, it will cause no tripping hazard, it can be fastened from the top of boards with a scaffold spanner and be used time and again in the same way as any other type of scaffolding fitting. It has been designed to be light but strong and handled easily and speedily by the fixer and its raised cup makes it difficult to undo the fixing bolt with any other than a box spanner. The "Limpet" can be serviced like any other type of fitting and all components are replaceable.
In all, the "Limpet" has been designed and manufactured professionally by a team with a considerable amount of accumulated experience in manufacture, professional safety and practical usage on site, with a view to it being user friendly, light and durable and cannot be used for any other task other than what it was designed for, and therefore safeguards itself against being used incorrectly as a substitute for another type of fixing.
The research into the cost of manufacture, assembly and distribution have been carefully monitored to ensure a cost effective alternative to any other methods currently used, with it being priced sensibly added to its reuse and speedy application value, it can be a worthy investment to the user.
The "Limpet" is proving popular in high risk areas such as the chemical industry and offshore industries where safety and efficiency are high priority, and prone to high winds.
There are now in excess of 50,000 units so far acquired and used successfully by leading chemical and offshore companies with further repeat orders imminent, thus proving their capabilities as a serious contender to alternative options, also a large amount are being used and growing more popular on general sites including our own contracts department where they are proving beneficial to the quality of service.
